I really enjoyed reading this story. Although it was rather long and not very interesting, it did make me think. I really liked how the writer stuck up for her mom and would speak simple English for her so she could understand what she was saying. Many people would think that because the mother could not speak perfect English she wasn't very smart. But the daughter understood that, even though her mom didn't have the best English, everything she said had more meaning and feeling in it than if she could speak perfectly. One part of this that I really enjoyed was when she said that her mother's language wasn't broken or limited, because to her, it was just fine. This story really showed how much the author believed in what she was saying. While reading this, I could feel the appreciation that this woman felt towards her mother. I also thought that how, even though people constantly told her English was not her strong suit, she continued to write and to practice her language. This story really made me respect the writer and the passion that she wrote this story with made me enjoy her story even more. With so many people trying to push her down, it is pretty amazing how far she has come and how many achievements she has. I also like how she wrote her book with the language her mom spoke and the simple English she used with her mom.

I agree with your points. It was really nice to see how much the author cared for her mother, and explained how the speech was not broken, it was simply different. It was nice to see how, when faced with what other’s thought she ‘should’ do, the author disregarded this and continued on her path to perfecting English. It was sweet to read about their past, and how when writing the book, the author viewed it as though she were her mother reading.
