The medical field is extremely difficult. There are so many contributing factors to the stresses of being in that work environment: risk of being sued for malpractice, having to determine other people's health conditions, keeping prescriptions and problems organized, and disappointing people with unknown treatments. Plus, there is the emotional damage of watching patients die. I can understand why James Dillard would not make the same decision he did that day in February. Who wants to be responsible for ruining the life of another? That's the harsh reality of the medical field. However, it is also extremely rewarding. Of course there's the high pay, but taking care of the sick and dying is extremely rewarding and comforting. Who wants to be responsible for saving another person's life? The work and dedication involved boil down to the balance of those risks. Would you think about the amount of people you've helped or the amount of people you've hurt? Would you play it safe or would you take the risk? It takes a strong person, indeed, to do such a profession.
I'm honestly disgusted by people who sue doctors that tried to help them. If there is a legitimate reason, like a surgeon with an expired surgery license operated on you and now you're paralyzed, then the lawsuit is perfectly understandable and just. If the situation is life or death, and the doctor chooses life with the cost of some functions, I think you should be grateful that they did that much for you instead of letting you die. But, that is just my opinion.
