The choice Dillard was faced with is a dilemma no one wants to encounter in their life. It’s sad to know that someone who was medically able and capable to help the injured man in this situation, questioned whether he should stop and help, because of his fear of being sued. As a medical doctor, Dillard states, he took an oath to serve the sick and the injured, but admits if faced with this situation in the future, he would not stop to help. People should not have to question whether they should do what is morally right just from fear of litigation. But the reality is that you cannot turn on the television or drive down the road without seeing an advertisement for a lawyer. The threat of being sued in today’s society is real and it ruins people’s lives. If I had been medically trained to help the injured driver I don’t think my conscience would have allowed me to drive by without providing help. Even if the situation had turned bad, knowing I had saved a life is a better feeling than feeling guilt the rest of my life because I chose to do what was best for me rather than help someone in need. Although I don’t think I could have driven by I empathize with Dr. Dillard’s situation.

I totally agree with you. I do not understand how or why he could get sued. I would rather not live with the guilt of not helping a man if I could. So I really like everything you said. Saving people if you are capable is more important than anything.

I agree completely. I stated the same type of things in my response. I would like to help the person, but I also wouldn't want to be sued. Being a doctor means you’re suppose to save lives, not watch someone die because you’re too scared to help them. It’s a very tough situation to be put in.
