I think the most fascinating part having to do with this article is the perseverance in the student. He shows a nearly perfect example of how students should be. As a student, most of the time you do not want to study the things you do but Scudder showed that in order to be successful, you usually face unpleasant obstacles. I think that was part of Professor Agassiz's lesson to him even. I believe that even though he did not want to study that type of organism, being that he did, it will help him tremendously in the long hall. This article is the ideal article for the beginning of a school year. I think it shows students that if you persevere through things you don't enjoy, it helps you that much more for the things you do want to do. In my opinion, any student can succeed in whatever subject if they show the diligence that Scudder showed in this essay. As a student in challenging classes for myself, this narrative essay was motivational to me to keep working as hard as Scudder and not stopped until I find what I am seeking.
