I truly disliked this story with a passion. I despise the idea that someone would let a man die in front of them and just drive on in order to save a career. What sickens me even more is the idea that the young med student did the right thing in accordance to the humanity scale but changed his mind in order to satisfy societies scale. The issue I have is the society is not always right. In fact, many times, society proves to be more wrong than right on a number of things. The young man saved the truck drivers life, even after he found out that the driver was drinking and driving. He over looked what bad might happened so that he could see what good may come out of his actions. he took a risk and it paid off. The professor successfully demolished some of the humanity that the young man had in him, he craved another chunk of humanitarian ideas and responses into societies ideas and laws. Sometimes breaking the rules is necessary in order to do the right thing. The ending of the story surprised me to say the least. I was expecting a more gentle ending; something rather sweet and impactful. Instead I got impactful but with a dash and sprinkling of bitterness.
