Wow. This was a heavy situation. He had a year left of schooling and he was considering to risk his reputation as a doctor just to save one man's life. Besides, this man was a drunk; it was this person's fault the whole accident happened. Yet, Mr. Junior Doctor was there, just decided on whim to come to the rescue. That's insane! Especially with the likeliness that the drunkard could have died or become paralyzed, how could he take such a risk? I am uncertain whether the savior either was incredibly stupid or had a heart of gold. Then the man rescued ended up leaving the ward because he wanted to drink more, have you no remorse for what you did? Or respect for the one who saved your life? There are so many things about the situation that bother me. I wonder if Jr. Doctor James would have changed his mind about what he did if he knew that the man would just continue his sad way of life. It's one thing if he was aware of his alcoholic disease, and actually tried to receive some help, but it sounded like he didn't care if he would be putting other people's life in danger again. If I knew this would happen and I was in James Dillard's places, I honestly do not think I could have made the same decision as he did. And just to be clear, I am not in support of leaving someone to die, despite whoever they may be, it just upsets me that the guy went so soon to just go get drunk again.
